Cracked Windshield: Dos and Don’ts
A cracked windshield can be a major nuisance. It not only looks awful, but it is also dangerous to drive with a broken or cracked windshield. As soon as your windshield gets damaged, you need to take it to a windshield repair shop to have it fixed. However, sometimes this may not be feasible due to financial constraints, and you would have to wait before you can have your windshield fixed or replaced. While you are waiting to have your windshield repaired, you should and should not do certain things. These include:
Dos
· Protect the Crack
Dust, dirt, and other particles can get into the crack, making it harder to repair. Cover the cracked area of the windshield with clear tape to protect it from dirt and debris.
· Measure the Crack
Check the size of the crack, and if it is less than 12” long, it means that the windshield can be repaired, and you won’t have to replace it entirely.
· Park Your Car in Shade
Built-up heat can weaken your vehicle’s windshield, causing the crack to grow and spread.
Don’ts
· Wash the Vehicle
Don’t wash the vehicle while your windshield is damaged. Water may get into the crack, causing it to spread.
· Ignore the Problem
Don’t wait for days to have your windshield repaired or replaced. Small cracks can spread if not repaired in time, and if that happens, you would need a complete replacement.
· Drive Your Vehicle
Driving with a cracked windshield is very dangerous. Pieces of glass can break and hurt you and the other passengers.
