But sometimes, our schedule and routine just don’t let us take care of important things like fixing a cracked or chipped windshield. In such cases, you can extend your visit to the windshield repair shop with an easy DIY hack you can use on minor cracks or chips.

Before we get into the details of this DIY, please note that these repairs are only suitable in minor cases. It is crucial that you assess your damage, and if fixing it yourself doesn’t seem like the right option, take it to a professional technician, like True Blue Auto Glass, and give them fix your damage with the best solution possible.

Windshield Repair Kit

You can easily fix windshield damage yourself by purchasing a DIY repair kit from a reputable auto repair shop. The repair kit includes a bridging applicator that is more stable than a typical syringe applicator and clings to the auto glass with the use of suction cups. Along with the package, other items you’ll need to remove minor scratches include:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Glass cleaner
  • Sandpaper
  • Tape
  • Clean razor blade

Cerium oxide is used to repair deep scratches, and acrylic scratch remover can be used to fix surface scratches.

Follow the instructions on the manual carefully and repair your windshield yourself. Bear in mind that this is not a permanent fix, and you will need a professional to repair your damaged windshield thoroughly.

Did you know you could also use acrylic nail polish to temporarily seal the cracks and chips on the windshield?
